Affect of ports

Here's an example of what happens when an app is running but the ports are blocked.



What you see on the left is the instance running on my Home computer. On the right is my session from the office (using LogMeIn.)

Fortunately, there are parameters to restrict the apps to use certain ports instead of a random port.

Cumulatively, our team has squandered many hours due to issues related to blocked or filtered ports. It has at times caused me to be very discouraged. To be effective and efficient we should be on a dmz or have access to our own firewall. We don't store any sensitive information on these systems so security is not a serious concern.
