Tribute to the "Father of the PC"

Henry Edward Roberts died of pneumonia yesterday at the age of 68 in Macon, Georgia.  Ed Roberts was an engineer and an entrepreneur. He was a medical doctor and mentor who inspired the likes of Bill Gates.  He designed the first commercially successful personal computer in 1975. The computer was called the Altair 8800 and it was the machine that inspired Bill Gates and Paul Allen to get into the computer programming business.

Oracle: "No More Free $olaris 10!"

In an attempt to squeeze more cash out of the carcass of Sun Microsystems, Oracle made the the terms of the Solaris 10 licensing agreement more restrictive. In 2005 Solaris licensing was made available for free. Sun made money by charging for support and maintenance.  This was done to make Solaris more competitive with Linux which was eating away at Sun and other UNIX OS market share.

Today $olaris 10 is available for a 90 day trial. After that you buy a license.
