Security updates

Today I took care of updates for the server, including some security-related ones. We are now patched against the libSSL bug and the privilege escalation issue with Site Documentation. Four other modules also got standard updates.

Looks like things are working as usual, but as always, let me know if anything is amiss.

Frustrating yet helpful

Much like a really challenging puzzle, there was progress... and frustration... and learning... and overall, we're closer to the goal. Today's meet enabled us to find some things, gain some insights, and learn some of the new questions we must ask to get to our goal. Overall, it was a good session. I'll be continuing with attempts to find answers to the challenges so we can hit our deployment target!

CATE X3D with Textures

Just uploaded the latest X3D for CATE:

http://virtualnorthstar.org/sites/virtualnorthstar.org/files/type_file/C...

This version of the X3D consists of the build as well as the applied textures.

Am currently working to export other scenes in this manner; MNSCU and SPC COE.

Progress!

Documentation on necessary steps to loading objects into Wonderland is humming along. The test will be tomorrow's meet with the team. We will load some of the work Evan has been doing into Wonderland and (with limited/no glitches) be able to roam around and test it out in-world. I'm really looking forward to it! Once we get it done, the documents will be eyeballed to refine them, and they will be posted.

Getting closer!

This week will see some serious advances in deployment. Again, once the deployment methods have been debugged, we can do more and faster emplacement within Wonderland. We'll publish user documentation that aims to make the process as smooth as possible. The models keep getting better, and the team is meeting this week in person to crunch on process.

Excellent work, everyone, and keep it up!

Exporting to X3D from Maya Binary (.mb) via the Rawkee X3D plugin

I've received an email from the developer of the Rawkee plugin with this very useful information on how to properly export a Maya Binary to an X3D.

Under File, click the box next to "Export All".

1) Make sure the "Consolidate Files Locally" box is checked. - If this is
not checked, the exporter will use the path on your machine in the URL
field of the ImageTexture node. This option was put in because one of the
groups helping me debug the software wanted this.

2) Make sure the "Overwrite Existing Texture and Audio Files" is checked.

Holidays and Work

They don't usually mix well. I'm having to fight for a few moments of work today - everyone seems to be conspiring to help me have a nice Mother's Day. To all those out in the world of Open Source who have mothers to appreciate or who are mothers, have a happy holiday!

As for the work, I continue plowing through the various project items I have on my plate, and will be very happy when I have it all figured out. May it be tomorrow. Cheers!
