The COE world will be offline briefly, as it is being moved to a different server to make room for another world on its current host.

Well, it would appear we've been given a bit of the spotlight this week, being mentioned in an article that was linked on Slashdot! It's great to see some new people dropping by, and I hope you'll check out the various worlds linked to on the home page (many of which are brand-newly deployed), and let us know how it went on our forums page.

The entire school will be losing power to allow for more construction work. Therefore, all servers, including the one hosting this site, will be offline from tonight through tomorrow morning (UTC-5). No changes to the servers or sites themselves are planned; just wiring.

When testing the connection to our server today, I got one of the "file not found" errors that some of the MiRTLE testing has run into. The path mentioned in the error was on the local machine, not the server, and the clients had not been updated recently. This seems to indicate that an update to Java itself (which these machines have had) rearranged the directory structure and/or naming of libraries somewhat, and Wonderland isn't smart enough to figure out where they went.

We got an update today to the statistics module, so it will be fun over the next few days/weeks to see what additional information we get out of it. Core project participants can get access to these if they wish - just ask me how if you're interested. Perhaps one of these days I'll give a summary of what we know so far - we almost have a legitimate data set for that sort of thing.

Today I took care of updates for the server, including some security-related ones. We are now patched against the libSSL bug and the privilege escalation issue with Site Documentation. Four other modules also got standard updates.

Looks like things are working as usual, but as always, let me know if anything is amiss.

The web site server has now been upgraded to the latest release of the Ubuntu operating system, and seems to be running just fine. As usual, let me know if anything seems amiss.

I wanted to highlight the fact that there is a conference of sorts taking place in Minneapolis this Saturday which is relevant to a number of things used for this project in one way or another. It's called MinneBar (short for Barcamp Minnesota), and registrations starts at 8:00 AM at Coffman Union. The full details are available on the Barcamp site.

You may have noticed the "News from the Metaverse" image/link on the front page, and the "News from Related Sites" item in the main menu. I added the Wonderblog to the places to pull information from for those today, but am looking for more. Unfortunately, MediaGrid doesn't currently publish an RSS or Atom feed for some strange reason, which we need for that functionality.

So, any other sites/blogs on topics related to ours that publish a syndication feed to propose for inclusion?

Added a wireframe of MNSCU island to the front page so people can see something a bit more interesting than the stock Sun artwork.

Also, there is a new version of the software the web server runs on, so I'm doing some testing of upgrades on other machines to evaluate whether it's safe to do so on this one as well. If things look good I'll likely give it a shot this Thursday or next Tuesday. If all goes well, downtime should be limited to a reboot, so three minutes or so. If there's more than that, you can be sure I'll be busy fixing something. :)
