The 3-tier architecture of Secure Global Desktop

Secure Global Desktop Software provides secure, remote access to desktop applications running on application servers. It is used to web- enable Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mainframe, and AS/400 applications.  Secure Global Desktop uses a three-tier model, in which the Secure Global Desktop server is independent of the clients and the application servers. Users can access Secure Global Desktop from a wide range of client devices across everything from a LAN to a dial-up modem connection. Application servers require little or no configuration to work with Secure Global Desktop.

Basecamp & the others.

Basecomp LogoProject management software basecamp has been gaining popularity since it's inception in 2004.  It is a web based collaboration tool for more efficiently working on projects. It's meant to be a simple replacement for more complex and overpriced project management suites. As the site says, " It's the better way to get projects done."

Cisco Educational Games

Cisco Games Arcade offers a series of online FLASH based games that teach potential network engineers about subjects like binary mathematics and high performance SAN topologies.  Other games help learners to "Master the often-challenging world of subnetting!".

Proof that Yelling at Hard Drives Hurts Performance.

Here's an amusing video that I've seen referenced in a few places.

THUM: Temperature Humidity USB Monitor

While some may argue about the ideal temperature for data centers and server rooms, one thing they do agree on is the need to monitor the environmental conditions of the space in which the organizations most expensive and sensitive assets reside.

High quality rack mountable enterprise grade monitoring systems can start at around $1000.  They will call, email, and text based on a wide range of criteria and they are capable of monitoring internal and external data including light levels and airflow.

Underground Datacenter

This data center is located in an old civil defense bunker 100 feet below Stockholm, complete with waterfalls, greenhouse-style NOC, glass-enclosed conference room “floating” above the colocation floor, and blue-lit diesel engines recovered from German submarines are used to provide power backup.

Oracle VM Server

 What's Oracle VM Server?

It's an open source baremetal hypervisor based on Xen. Think of it as a streamlined well tuned version of Xen that's easier to setup.

What is Xen?
It's the industry standard in enterprise virtualization and is used in cloud computing environments as well.
