Others' experiences of Wonderland

The Media Grid experience was cool, and Sun Microsystems' kickoff was very classy. After the initial kickoff and talk, people departed Second Life to go to various of the nodes of Wonderland. There, they could get the feel of the world, talk with people at each of the nodes, and really experience Wonderland. The potential is so good, so amazing!

Being "on the Grid"

The Media Grid Immersive Education launch today was awesome! It was so well attended that for a while, people couldn't enter Sun's pavilion, but fortunately, that was quickly remedied. Several speakers talked about the projects that came together for the launch, and many were thanked, both individually and as a team, for their efforts, in whatever roles they had.

Voice

On the Internet, anything goes.

When you log on, and you have interactions with anyone else, anywhere, you can do, be, say what you are. You can play any role. So what, then, is the role of the Internet in social interactions? Is it to open the possibilities, or to smooth the way?

Social Network fills Social Gap

Intel, as noted in this article on BBC News online, has founded a social network of caregivers ("carers" in short) to fill a gap in the real world. The network is designed to bring together professionals, family, government workers and others to build a supportive community. The site includes a database of information as well as methods to discuss and contact others in the network.

Immersive (Virtual) Environments

The meetings today were excellent. Jeff B. from Fox News interviewed the teams from U of Oregon (CATE) and St. Paul College (Virtual NorthStar), and some very interesting and valuable things were brought to the surface. Wonderland, and indeed some other immersive platforms, have something new that hasn't previously existed in other forms of secondary group interaction.

Exciting times!

Saint Paul College's Virtual NorthStar project is gearing up for an interview with a major news group tomorrow, as well as having a group meeting in virutal space on our progress to date, what our next steps are, and how we're approaching our goals. The CATE/Oregon team will be with us in-world, and I can't wait!
