The fusion between an idea and the next idea that it inspires is hard to pin down. The concept of shared applications presents the opportunity for amazing fusion and the spontaneous idea generation it can enable, as much as for the ability to collaborate instead of acting consecutively. So what's the big deal about that?
Well, while consecutive collaboration efforts, such as what you get when you work on something, and then circulate it to others who will have input, is that the framework that the first person builds serves as a fence for ideas. While it's not impossible to expand the boundaries - even "move the fence" as it were - people tend to think along channels when channels are provided.
Real-time collaborative fusion happens when people are given the chance to work on an idea or collection of ideas all together, at once, and to really sound them out with each other. New ideas and directions are spawned, and new depth is gained. Ideas which would never have made it to the table are sometimes the best ideas, and something beautiful happens. A product is created that is greater than the sum of the ideas that brought it to life.
Wonderland can be that kind of collaborative environment. For business and for education, for small or big projects, it can be the magnet for great ideas. If people are in different locations - be it on different floors or across the world - Wonderland can provide the place for them to come together. The shared application features of Wonderland are really remarkable for that. Tonight, I visited one of our sites that was not at that time being used, and noticed that someone had drawn a simple flower outline on one of the shared applications. It inspired me to add to it in a small way. I colored the flower, and added a sky for limitless potential, and a sun to encourage growth. It looked good - but there was some clear space left for the next person to happen along.
What will he or she bring to that piece? I wonder....
